14th February 2012 - Gallier Back on track

Eurocams backed 14 year old Robbie Gallier of Lympsham, was in action for the first time in 2012. it was his first time competing on the new 2012 CRG Kart and with Hobzie Motorsport.

It was a very cold start for the youngster at the Clay Pigeon track just outside Dorchester with the temperature at minus five degrees. He opted for the open practice sessions on Saturday as he wanted to get used to the team and the Kart. It was also important for him to work on tyre pressures as these would be key to a good race set up for the Sunday with getting temperature into the tyres difficult.

The new Team and Kart did not phase him as he soon set the fastest times of the day in the Junior Rotax class, this helped his confidence for Sunday's race day.

On arriving at the the track Sunday morning, it was apparent that there was black ice which led to a delayed start, for the three heats and a final. In the first of the three heats Robbie started from 5th and getting as high as 2nd to drop back to 3rd after another driver nudged him into the horseshoe bend, he finished 3rd.

The second heat was very difficult to call the tyres as there was a dry line and the temperature was only just above freezing. The team opted for full wets, but this proved to be the wrong call as starting from poll Robbie slipped back to 10th as the Kart gripped up.

Knowing he needed a good third heat and that it would be difficult as he was to start this heat three 10th, he made a good start and was soon up to 5th. With the front pack pulling away this was the best he would be able to achieve in the 10 laps.

Qualifying 5th for the final and with the a very competitive grid, he was determined to finish on the podium. With every lap Gallier just got faster and faste. On lap 11 of 15 he was into 2nd, with the pole setter increasing the gap in the early laps whilst Gallier was coming through the traffic there were just not enough laps to allow him to challenge for the lead. 2nd was a great result, and he also had the fastest lap, netting him good championship points and a good start to the 2012 season.

Gallier commented "It was a good weekend and I now feel with the CRG Kart and Hobzie Motorsport it is going to be a good year. My mechanic for the weekend Conor Hardiman was a great help, and I can't wait until the next race"
